Truly Living: Living Life To The Fullest

21 May, 2008

Often when we reflect upon our lives, what do we see? Or what do we hope to see? How have we been living our lives? Jesus said in the book of John: I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.   John 10:10 (CEV)   Does that verse seem alien and mocking to us? Are we truly living to the fullest or are we just surviving?

Survival is an instinct in-built in every creature. It is a sense of self-preservation which translates from the fear of annihilation and death. It is the energy behind adaptation and hence, conditioning. In simple words, it is the struggle of keeping our nose just above the water. But is that the way we should live? Obviously not. How then should live our lives that is to the fullest?

Living Life To The Fulllest, Life is too short

Let’s see:

Worry Not   One of the most talked about topic Jesus had with the people during His earthly ministry is about material wealth because Jesus knows it is close to everyone’s mind. Our chief concerns about our immediate needs and wealth are addressed by Jesus in Matthew 6.   Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?   Matthew 6:25-27   Jesus not only told us not to worry, but beyond that, He told that we much loved by the Father. Worrying robs the very life out of you. What can you add to your life by worrying?

Love Much   The most important aspect about God, is love. God is love. If you haven’t love, you haven’t truly lived. To truly live life to the fullest is to dive yourself into the ocean of love. Love is the very essense of true living life. Open up yourself to love, to compassion, to the depths your heart. The world teaches you to withdraw from love, to be “protected”, impersonal, and dead objective, but God is calling you to go love and experience life. There is so much to write above love because it is the entire theme of the Bible, of Jesus, of God Himself.   No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:12    “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35   We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19    And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

Laugh Often   While often a much left out topic, we missed also an essential part of our blessings. To be happy, joyful and glad. A sad life is not a good life. A fullest life must thus include great joy and gladness. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4   In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33   We write this to make our joy complete. 1 John 1:4   Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Thankful Always   An essential ingredient to the entire mix is thankfulness. Sometimes when we witnessed an amazing sight or event that we are so in awe, it is going to be very difficult if we cannot give thanks to the Maker. The happiest time is when we receive somthing we know we are most undeserved, and the ability to be thankful to the correct source is paramount. For unbelievers, who have all these mounting emotions but they cannot express it wholeheartedly because they have nothing to attribute it to, is sad. Beautiful things happens for a purpose.   So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7

Peace Actively   Peace is a divine quality that always follows those who actively stays in it. It is a divine gift that surpasses all understanding; We don’t earn it but we have to actively maintain it. A trust that seems foolish to the others. The direct opposite to plain survival instinct; The smile in the storm. The Truly Living.   And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7   Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

  1. Amen!
    This made my day!

  2. So what does it mean to say that the source of existence (i.e., God) is love? I would argue the question points to the metaphysics of love rather than simply saying that God creates existence (or, the world) because God loves it. If you want to check out my post, pls see: http://deligentia.wordpress.com/2009/10/24/deciphering-god-is-love/

  3. I think love is not a simply a matter of metaphysics. It is naive for people to think they can break something so complex down to plain science. Love is of a person; you love you spouse, your parents love you, you love your parents, etc. You dont love because of love. You love because of that person. And you cannot really reason the logic behind or quantify that.

In this is case, love is also of a person, the Father and the Son; Jesus Christ. And how this love was shown? God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 1John 4:9
