Trust in the Lord with all your heart

13 November, 2008

Many people have been so badly beaten and abused during the course of their lives, that they no longer have any ability to trust anyone – including God Himself! A dog can only take so much of a beating. After a certain amount of time, the dog will no longer trust anyone, including his own master.

However, for Christians, no matter how badly you have been beaten up in your past – the one thing that you cannot have affected is your ability to trust in your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and our heavenly Father. As a result of the beatings, defeats and rejections, that some of God’s people have taken over the years, some of these people have literally lost their ability to even trust in God Himself. It is one thing to have faith in God, to know that God exists, and that He is all-powerful and that there is nothing that He cannot do or accomplish – but it is quite another thing to be able to completely trust God with your life and to completely trust Him to properly handle it for you, especially if everyone in your past has let you down in one form or another.

But let us allow the Word of God and the embrace of the Holy Spirit reassure us once again.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
   don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
   he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.
   Run to God! Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health,
   your very bones will vibrate with life!
Honor God with everything you own;
   give him the first and the best.
Your barns will burst,
   your wine vats will brim over.
But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline;
   don’t sulk under his loving correction.
It’s the child he loves that God corrects;
   a father’s delight is behind all this.

Proverbs 3:5-12
