Pray In The Power Of The Holy Spirit
19 March, 2009And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:26-28
One of the greatest gifts that God has given us to bring divine hope to our lives is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter, the Strengthener, the Helper, etc. But it is one thing to have head knowledge and another to actually pick up that gift that God’s given us and use it; actually taking opportunities to pray in the Holy Spirit. We all know that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter but how many times do we actually in our desperation make ourselves pray in the Holy Spirit? Or do we need to wait until we are desperate to use this gift?
But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right at the center of God’s love, keeping your arms open and outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending life, the real life! Jude 1:20-21
In Jude 1, verse 20 says to carefully build ourselves up by praying in the Holy Spirit. You – build yourself up on your most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit. We can build up our faith up accumulatively when we pray in the Holy Spirit, so that we don’t need to wait until desperate times then we scramble for “bail-out” prayers.
I want to encourage you to use the gift God has given you. Use your prayer language and watch what God will do. Then the comfort of the Holy Spirit will come out from within you and it will bring peace that surpasses all human understanding in your life.
That has always been my life saver. Try it!

A couple of hours ago tonight, I walked through a section of Ephesians 6 with 7th and 8th graders in our youth group to discuss putting on the full armor of God. Verse 18 in the NLT says “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” I would like to have developed that more, but did not really understand what “Pray in the Spirit” means. Your posting has helped to shed light on that. Very few people in my congregation ever talk about prayer language. Where can I go to learn more about that? Is that for everyone (can I get that too)?
much grace,
Stephen
Hi Stephen,
Please see here for a good and bibilcally sound place to learn more about praying in tongues or in the Spirit:

I believe everyone has this gift through the Holy Spirit. God is fair and would want to equip everyone with the same power to eddify themselves. We simply need to ask the Holy Spirit to free us from our own human inhibition and constraints mentally.
My personal experience and I would reckon the most common downfall is that we didn’t dare to let go and “jump in”. We are afraid of drowning, offending God with “rubbish” we didn’t understand. So this too take faith and assurance from the Holy Spirit.
But one you know it is the Holy Spirit that is taking over… Wow, there is no looking back…
GOD BLESS YOU, I know it was the spirit of GOD that brought me to your page and it really did bless me, I Praise GOD for you and may He continue to bless you and keep you, Amen. GOD BLESS YOU GOD BLESS YOU GOD BLESS YOU!!!
Thanks for your blessings Angie, you are a timely reminder from God for me to re-learn His Truth again.
