The Sweet Sweet Water, Wood on Water

In the The Waters of Marah and Elim, when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, from the Red Sea, they went into the desert and for 3 days they went without water. When they finally found water, it was bitter. They grumbled, I would too.

The LORD showed Moses a piece of wood and Moses threw it into the water. The water become sweet. What would that piece of wooden trunk reminds you of? THE WOODEN CROSS. The very object that can change the bitter deserved into sweet water.

But notice here after the water become sweet, the LORD made a law and tested them. He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”

The Israelites then came to Elim and camped in the desert haven.

Now we all know from the Bible that the Israelites failed miserably time and time again thereafter. But was it the Lord’s intention to fail them with the test? No, I believe God made this test to show that we humans are not capable to keep the law; All of it, any of it. If you fail one rule just slightly, you failed entirely. Neither are we to put our hope on material things, even with the wooden cross singularly. The wood may have sweetened the water divinely, but it cannot heal.

So putting it altogether what kind of picture do we have? The law and the wooden cross alone cannot help us. Only the Lamb on the cross that fulfills the full law, can help and heal us. Only by the Lamb can the stringent requirements be met. Only by His sacrifice on the Cross can we come into the heavenly oasis.

The Sweet Sweet Water, Surface Tension

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”   John 4:13-14

Do you have a bitter situation or past? Try throwing the Cross in, sweet sweet water awaits.
