The Forgotten Blessing, Ascolta le parole

There is a long forgotten secret hidden in the Bible that we no longer notice or use. That is, the verbal blessings spoken to and over our dear ones and our possessions. Throughout the entire Bible, we see that verbal blessings were an often practiced repeatedly from the very time of Abraham until the age of the Apostles. Do a word search on “bless” in the Bible and see for yourself, here. However the tradition or the practice was never purposefully pass down thereafter; it maybe slowly eroded and forgotten, or it maybe demonically covered and replaced.

Looking at the world trend today, it seems like cursing and swearing is the “in” and “cool” thing to do. This was made popular by the MTV-street-hip generations. However, people were deceived and don’t realise when we curse, there are spiritual realm of power at work, and that power will also translate into the physical realm. To simply put, a verbal curse goes further than a word spoken; it will ultimately cause death and destruction. Sounds too unbelievable? Then check out the two accounts (not just one), when Jesus cursed the fig trees and both the trees withered.   Matthew 21:18-22   Mark 11:12-14, 19-25

The Forgotten Blessing, Rock“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of death will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”    Matthew 16:15-19

In the above account, when Peter declared Jesus’ divinity. Jesus blessed Peter. And Jesus declared or blesses “my church”, that’s us – Jesus’ Church, that Hades will not prevail against. The rock refers not to Peter (Peter mean small rock) but to the solid truth that Jesus (the big cornerstone) is the Messiah, the Son of the living God. That is why the gospel is well alive today and nothing will overcome it. For a good detail explanation, see here

In addition, Jesus gave us the authorities to bind and loose, a Jewish common language that is to forbid and to allow respectively. These authorities work on earth and in heaven, signifying the power in both physical and spiritual realms. By the binding, we can forbid and block curses that are like fiery darts of accusations, death and destruction that is thrown at us. And by loosing, we are letting the words of blessings flow into our lives, our loved ones and people around us. The tongue has the power of life and death  Proverbs 18:21 , and the tongue that brings healing is a tree of life  Proverbs 15:4.

The Forgotten Blessing, Speak Life

Go now, bless your life, your loved one, your possession, your work, your home, your pet, your finances, whatever you wish to give healing and life to; and see your blessings flourish. The dead cannot give life, because it is dead. We can give life simply because the very Life, Jesus the bread of life, the resurrection and the life, the way the truth and the life is in us and we walk not in death but in life.
