A Child Has Been Born—for Us!

For us, a baby is born. For us, God’s only beloved Son is given for the sins of the world; you and me. From His birth, baby Jesus is set to die. In a stone manger He was laid in birth, in a stone tomb He eventually was laid in death. An infinite mighty God who became mere finite human. He laid down His heavenly majesty and came down humbly to serve. Out of love, He endured terrible betrayal, injustice, torture and loneliness. A God who became flesh and He gave His all, His very own life.

A Child Has Been Born—for Us! Explored! #309

Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory.

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. You will enlarge the nation of Israel, and its people will rejoice. They will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest and like warriors dividing the plunder. For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor’s rod, just as you did when you destroyed the army of Midian. The boots of the warrior and the uniforms bloodstained by war will all be burned. They will be fuel for the fire.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen! Isaiah 9:1-7

  1. You may find these articles on virgin birth of interest and coming from an unusual angle

and, similarly the debate on TheologyWeb:

    Forum — General Theistics 101
Thread — Does the Bible teach that Mary was a virgin when Jesus was conceived?

  2. King David says:

I have briefly looked at your arguments but in my humble opinion, they are more of questions by the uninitiated and bewildered on the “flimsy and unsustainable” claims of Jesus’ virgin birth. An attempt to discredit the divinity birth of Jesus Christ. I can probably debunk those arguments point by point in time. Then again, unless the need arises, we will see…

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. As the Scriptures say,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”

So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

    1 Corinthians 1:18-25
