“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”   Rev 1:8

Fear Not! Hanging Tough

For this coming new year, many are fearful of what is to come. Bad reports from financial sectors, economic sectors, and security sectors, all over the world are dishing out their own woes on their stability. Gloomy days lies ahead for the new year. But this is only what the world says.

Throughout the Word of God, we find two words appearing very often: ‘Fear Not”. Fear is a powerful, unpleasant feeling associated with the risk of danger. We have been wonderfully designed with a safety instinct to have a feeling of alertness in times of danger. Our body gears up for a fight or flight mood: adrenaline rushes, muscles tense, our awareness heightens, even blood to our skin halts in anticipation to reduce bleeding should we injure ourselves (that’s why we are pale in such situations). However, this defensive emotion has been abused by the world and fear of the unknown is generated. Fear can be real or imaginary, it causes agitation and anxiety. Sadly, fear has integrated into most of our reasoning faculties that produces great confusion in our lives, it has slowly becoming the way of life for many.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.   2 Tim 1:7

Our Almighty God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, the Lion of Judah did not give birth to mouse of sonship but of power and love. I asked the Lord what self-discipline has to do with all these, and I got my answer: We must be discipline not to be in fear but in faith. When fear creeps in, in opposition to the Word of God, we must not let it paralyze  and torment us. Instead we must let the Holy Spirit rise us up in faith, power and love! We must not let fear and uncertainty rob us of the joy and peace God has deposited in us.

Fear is always a downward spiral once we let it run freely in us and it can be addictive. We must capture it and expel it with the Word of God. Fear is anxious about something that may happen in the future. When you create a scenario in your mind that do not come from the assuring Word of God, the grinding mental process repeats itself inside you and wears down your spirit man, which eventually wears down your soul (mental facilities) and finally physically. Fear is the opposite of love and negates the workings of faith. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

Fear is the projection of the mind and reasoning that brings separation from God who created you and the world, who sent His Son to redeem you, giving you eternal victory over the world. Therefore, with this new beginning, fear not!

Jesus asked, “Do you finally believe? But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”   John 16:32-33
