A Special Promised Rest for God’s People

One of the greatest joy and comfort in Christianity has to be the privilege to rest. In our hectic, fast-paced and result orientated crazy-world, the call to rest ourselves; body, soul and spirit is incomparably divine. Look at it this way, your school teachers will not teach you to rest, your business clients will not want you to rest and your boss may not be too happy that you rest. Maybe even your parents or spouse may not like you to rest! hahaha…. There is always something yet to be done, another hill to conquer and seemingly never ending task awaiting. There is no true rest even in religions or riches.

But God Himself calls you to rest. The special gift of rest; the rest is based on the blissful knowledge that all has been taken care of and will be taken care of. Many have tried with their own efforts and failed, but God wants us to know that we can trust on His effort and enjoy “a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied” (Deuteronomy 6:10-11) spiritually but also physically.

If we are to work, God wants us to “work” hard towards rest, the great wondrous rest. Huh? you may ask. God wants us to stop struggling on our own like abandoned children. No, we are not abandoned children but children of the the Most High God! He wants us to stop struggling and start resting; believing in His grace as loving parents toward us, trusting in His love and provision for us.

Something I really don’t mind doing for the rest of my life, or rather for eternity.

So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest.   Hebrews 4:9-11
