Unceasing Fruitfulness – Wet Dragon

Overheard someone commented this new year will be a year of the “water dragon”. What he meant was refering to the Chinese Zodiac that will be ushered in this lunar year, the year of the dragon. Traditionally or rather superstitiously, in the Chinese Zodiac, the year of the fire dragon is a good year; a good year for birth, health and prosperity. However, supposingly it will be a wet (read: limp) dragon this time round.

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

Instead of anxiously believing the new year will be like a soggy-frail dragon like what the world does, what should we believe in?

Well, in Jeremiah, God is telling us believers that we should stand steady like trees planted and nourished in the hope and confidence in the Lord. Note that both “planted” and “nourished” depicts a deliberate act. Make no mistake, this is going to be a very eventful (read: turbulent) year yet, with half the world still in crisis; with no clear hope in sight. But God’s Word already has assured us that if we trust and draw from the Lord, such trees (that’s us), will not be bothered by heat or worried by long months of drought. Even in the worse heat and long drought, those who put their trust in the Lord will stay green and fresh; healthy and stong; and never-never stop producing fruit!

Feeding by the Living Water, we probably wouldn’t even notice the heat and drought!
So, where do you want to put your faith in? A year of the wet fire-dragon or a year of unceasing fruitfullnes of the well-watered trees?

  1. True indeed! This will be a year of unending favor! We will continue to overflow with everything that God has set for us 🙂
