Infinity, Spiritually Speaking

According to the Bible (1 Thes 5:23), we know humans actually consist of 3 distinct entities, created according to God’s own image, distinguishing ourselves from all the other creation. Firstly, the physical body – the material body that is tangible and visible. Then, there is the intangible soul; the mental facilities that includes emotions, intellect, will, conscience, character, that further separates us as individuals. And lastly, there is the spirit that is the inner person awoken and bonded irreversibly with the Holy Spirit, when one accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Generally, it is the easiest for people to engage physically; with our material body and our senses to our environment. It is the first entity of the humans, we develop and operate by. And as with all things physical, the gratification is mostly immediate but also normally the lowest or least lasting – that is, temporal. Comparatively, when engaging the soul, your mind, will and emotions, it will always seems to be more rewarding and fulfilling. And when the soul is rewarded, usually the body benefited as well.

In the Old Testament, God related Himself to His people mainly through the physical; like food-manna, water, cloud (visual and shade), smoke and fire. Plagues to Egypt, opening of the Red Sea, the fall of Jericho walls, victory over giants, enemies and strongholds; were very physical demonstrations of God’s love. Unfortunately, the Israelites then, fell in and out God’s grace over the course.

When Jesus came, He too related to His people in the physical, like turning water to wine, healing of the physical bodies, feeding the multitudes. But more importantly, Jesus’ purpose was more inclined to the healing of hearts; the teaching of the Good News, setting free the bondage and giving sight to the spiritually blind (Luke 4:18-19). The entire ministry of Jesus and His teachings were to engage the people’s soul; their understanding that it is by grace of God that the Spirit gives life, not through the human effort! Sadly, for the most parts of Jesus’ teaching, it was just too hard to be understood or accepted by the people at that time, including some of the closest and dearest disciples. (John 6:60-70).

Fortunately, the turning point came after Jesus’ death, resurrection and ascension, with the promised Holy Spirit.

But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. John 16:7

You see, the Holy Spirit who is God Himself, the Advocate, the Comforter, the Encourager, the Counselor, who actually live in us. This is something even angels and demons drop their jaw for! The infinite perfect almighty God, shrinks Himself down to live in finite imperfect humans. And you know what? The Holy Spirit is even vulnerable to our abuse when living in us as Ephesians 4:30 cautioned us not to grieve Him. But even so, He does not leave!

We have something in us the world does not have, does not comprehend and does not believe. We have something in us that is so powerful yet so quite delicate. We are not orphans battling on our own, fending for ourselves. There is always this inner help in times of our need. So how do we engage and exercise our inner spirit?

Worship.     You see, God is Spirit, and to truly worship God, we must engage spiritually to correspond in the spiritual realm. God has given all of Himself so that we fallen ones are restored and we just need to take the next step to engage spiritually if we want to really commune with God.

Pray in the Spirit.     To engage spiritually, is also to pray in the spirit or in tongues. And the Father who knows what the Holy Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

Spiritual Edification – Jude 1:20
Speaking Divine Mysteries – 1 Corinthians 14:2
Magnify God – Acts 10:46
Praying according to the will of God – Romans 8:26-27
Giving thanks – 1 Corinthians 14:17
Strengthening our inner man – Ephesians 3:16

When we engage spiritually; by worshipping God in spirit and in truth, and praying in the spirit; we are also operating in a realm that also reward us; the Holy Spirit produces in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22   And when our spirit is blessed, our soul and body very much be blessed too.

God is Spirit, came physically in the flesh – Jesus Christ; Christ suffered physically and anguished mentally. Finally, giving up to death so that we can have His Life; To save us so that we can be restored to the Father. Through the cross, we received the gift of Life, that are regenerated physically, mentally and spiritually. His Holy Spirit now lives in us, to be with us; Like Christ we are no longer just a physcially being, we are a spiritually being as well. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
