I read that a relic claimed to be a “Thorn from Jesus’s Crucifixion Crown” went on display at British Museum, see here. There is even a picture of that relic published.

Relic of 'Thorn from Jesus's crucifixion crown

Have you ever wondered why did Jesus had to wear the crown of thorns, a crown of sufferings?

It was not by chance nor coincidence. The Roman soldiers didn’t just happened to put the thorny crown on Jesus for their own amusements; or so they thought. It was an action sanctioned by God the Father, for His begotten Son to suffer accordingly so that we may be redeemed accordingly. The entire journey of Christ on earth has a focal point, and that is at the cross.

And God purposed that through (by the service, the intervention of) Him [the Son] all things should be completely reconciled back to Himself, whether on earth or in heaven, as through Him, [the Father] made peace by means of the blood of His cross. And although you at one time were estranged and alienated from Him and were of hostile attitude of mind in your wicked activities, Yet now has [Christ, the Messiah] reconciled [you to God] in the body of His flesh through death, in order to present you holy and faultless and irreproachable in His [the Father’s] presence. Colossians 1:20-22 (AMP)

You see, Jesus Christ has redeemed us from the “hostile attitude of mind in our wicked activities”. In simple words, Christ took upon Himself and away from us, our sins – that will first originate from our mind! Our sins will estranged and alienated us from the Father, a direct result from the fall of man and the following curse that came as a consequence.

“Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:17-19

This curse: “By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat…”, refers to the stress, struggle, depression and anxiety that comes with working hard and yet producing little (the consequence).

The Crown Of Thorns That Jesus Wore For You

Thorns are the actual physical representation of the fallen world and it’s resulted curse. Jesus wore the thorns on His head physically demonstrating that He has borne this very curse for you and redeemed you from it. He wore the thorns so that you can be free from the hostile attitude of mind, the mental stress, depression and anxieties.

So we shouldn’t have to worry and be stressed out like the people of the world does. Our heavenly Father can grant us our victory and success in life without the worries and stresses; all because of what Christ did.

By the crown of thorns on Jesus’ head, Christ took your sins and redeemed every curse that was supposed to befall on your head. He wore the crown of thorns for you so that you can have peace of mind, and become a mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). He wore the crown of thorns for you so that you can wear the crown of glory; the crown of life; the crown of righteousness.

This is all possible because the crown of thorns that Jesus wore for you and me.

PS: look forward to the day i will receive my golden crown. So I will be able to laid it down at Jesus’ feet in worship and thanksgiving. Join me then…

  1. Yea, this is good. I am not worthy to wear any crown. I will lay myself at his feet and ask for forgiveness. Only He could wear the crown of our Salvation. AMEN!!!
